last few days

It's been a hectic last few days, the highlight being going to my first FA cup game; stoke vs arsenal. it was mad, football fans are like no other people! i especially loved the abuse thrown at the oppositions fans (that being arsenal as i was with my mates from stoke) and i'm not ashamed to say did my bit of shouting fuck off you southern c***s... in a southern accent, which got a few quizzical looks. anyway it was amazing and i think i might be a born again football fan.
on arriving in stoke the day before the meatch there was a large police presence and it wasn't until we got to mcdonalds we realised the English Defence League (who probably don't deserve capital letters) were staging a protest with banners such as "stop the islamification of britain", which is something i must be naive enough not to notice happening.there are a worrying amount of disillusioned "nationalists" who think all muslims are extremists. it's kind of the same as a foreigner thinking all english people are anti islam, a case of a few bad apples. anyway it was a surprise to see as i've never seen any protesting on that scale and i wish it had something to do with something i believed in because i was well up for a rowdy one. it made for good entertainment while we ate our burgers though, although i'd like to highlight that the stoke mcdonalds by the bus station does not do the free cheeseburger with a student card and thats the only reason i ever go in mcdonalds now...
the painting is just an experimental one done today using paints, razor blades and cotton buds. peace

boundaries

Since the christmas break i have been struggling to grasp a direction to take my work. I knew i wanted to experiment with film and maybe installation as well as painting and drawing but i wasn't happy with the lack of a concept. After todays tutorial with Paul from Static gallery i had a burst of inspiration (thanks Paul), he said something like "art is just an extension of what you are thinking at the time". This made me realise that i didn't havr to have a groundbreaking concept i just need to keep practicing in a productive way to generate new ideas.

This is the start of new idea, it's about addressing and questioning boundaries in our cultivated society.

The first set of images are telling you what to do.

The second set of images are from a skateboarding/beer sesh inside a Tesco in liverpool city centre where you have to sneak past security to get in and use the space. It is a public car park and there is no problem with people using the space to walk to and from their cars and drive their cars about, but, as soon as someone starts using it in a recreational way e.g skateboarding it becomes a problem. Skateboarding is one activity that thinks and works outside the box of rules and regs the city inforces upon people.
